Technology + Digital Experience + Customer Experience

Where Creative Leadership Became Experience Strategy

Connecting brand, digital experience and customer needs within a global B2B supply-chain technology company.

Creative Director + CX Leader

Feb. 2012 - Sept. 2013

The Opportunity

Technology was sophisticated.
The experience needed to make it understandable.

Datex operated within a highly technical B2B environment, developing supply-chain solutions spanning warehouse management, procurement, light manufacturing, sales-force automation and cartonization for customers across North America, Latin America and the Middle East.

The opportunity was to connect that technology story to the people using and evaluating it—translating complex products and capabilities into clearer digital interactions, communications and customer experiences.

This role became an important transition in my career, expanding beyond creative leadership into digital experience and customer experience—and ultimately shaping how I approach transformation today.

My Role

Customer Experience

Customer Experience
Looking beyond individual creative deliverables to understand how customers interacted with the organization across their broader journey.

Experience

Digital Experience
Creating clearer and more effective ways for customers to discover, understand and engage with complex technology solutions.

Digital

Brand + Communication
Translating sophisticated supply-chain capabilities into communications that were easier for customers and prospects to understand.

Strategy

B2B Technology Experience
Working within a software-driven organization where technology, product, customer needs and experience were increasingly interconnected.

Technology

Transformation in Action

Expanded creative and digital thinking to consider the broader customer journey and how individual interactions collectively shaped the customer's perception of the organization.

It represented an important shift from thinking primarily about individual deliverables toward thinking about the complete experience surrounding them.

Digital Experience
Making technology easier to explore.

Evolved digital experiences around customer needs, creating clearer ways for prospects and customers to understand Datex and its technology solutions.

Customer Experience
Looking beyond the interface.

A selection of focus areas that helped evolve Datex's digital presence, customer communications and experience within a complex B2B technology environment.

Technology Storytelling
Translating complexity into clarity.

Supply-chain technology can be inherently complex.

Creative direction and communication became tools for translating sophisticated product capabilities into clearer customer value—connecting what the technology did with why it mattered.

Brand Experience
Creating consistency across interactions.

Connected brand, communications and digital experiences to create a more cohesive representation of the organization across customer-facing touchpoints.

The objective was not simply visual consistency, but greater clarity around how the organization, its technology and its value were experienced.

Global B2B Perspective
Designing for more than one audience.

Working within an organization serving customers across North America, Latin America and the Middle East provided exposure to the challenges of communicating complex technology across different markets, audiences and customer environments.

It reinforced the importance of understanding context before designing the experience.

The Connected Experience

Technology creates capability.
Experience determines how easily customers can understand and use it.

Connecting technology, customer needs, communication and digital experience creates a more intuitive, effective and valuable customer journey.

My Perspective

“Design became less about what customers saw—and more about what they experienced.”

Working inside a technology organization changed my perspective on creative leadership. The strongest experiences don't simply make complicated things look better. They make complicated things easier to understand, navigate and use.

That principle has stayed with me throughout my work in customer experience, product strategy and digital transformation.

Key Takeaways

The more sophisticated the product or technology, the more important clarity becomes.

Complexity may be unavoidable behind the experience. It shouldn't be unnecessarily transferred to the customer.

Simplify Complexity

Technology should be organized around what customers are trying to accomplish.

Great experiences begin with customer needs—not internal structures or capabilities.

Design Around People

Customers experience organizations as a whole.

Brand, digital, product and service interactions collectively shape how customers perceive and engage with an organization.

Connect the Touchpoints

Great communication connects capabilities to customer value.

The goal isn't simply explaining what technology does. It's helping customers understand why it matters to them.

Translate, don’t just communicate
